Choosing tools for a bonsai routine

Fine scissors help with controlled foliage work, while the right wire diameter depends on the branch and the bend you need. For watering a pot with a loose top dressing, consider a gentle shower or water breaker so the stream does not wash out soil. Larger garden irrigation products can serve a bonsai bench or growing area, but check their dimensions and connections against your setup. A sifter helps separate particle sizes when preparing a substrate.

See Tools & Wire for shaping supplies, Soil & Supplies for the current sifter and growing supplies, and Bonsai Pots to complete a repotting setup.

Common questions

Which tool should I start with? Start with the task you actually need to do. Scissors suit small pruning jobs; wire is useful when training flexible branches; a sifter helps with soil preparation.

Will an ordinary hose nozzle work for bonsai? A gentle spray can help, but test the flow on your substrate so water reaches the root zone without dislodging soil.
